Hobbies

Aside from the things I do or deal with everyday like family, work, cooking, laundry, and such, I like to spend any free time playing around with and building skills for a few activities that interest me. I don't have a whole lot of free time, but when I do, on rare occasions, have a few minutes reserved for myself, I enjoy baking and decorating cakes, amateur portrait photography, learning to play the guitar, and now blogging.

I have tried and am still trying to master the art of cake decorating. Fondant defeats me every time. I'm probably better at baking the actual cakes than making them look pretty. I still give it my best effort, though. I am the official birthday cake baker of my family, so I can share those creations with you:

I also enjoy photography--taking pictures and editing them. Again, I am no master at this. Everything I've learned about photography has come from friends, Pinterest, and YouTube videos. I did take one free, two-day long Photoshop class that was offered by our local public library. That has probably been the most helpful in teaching me to do the things with pictures that I've wanted to do. Most of the pictures I take are of family and friends for our own personal use, but recently I have ventured out into taking more professional photos for clients looking for high quality with fair prices. I've photographed seniors for graduation photos, couples for engagement photos, weddings, children, and even a U.S. Marine Corps Ball.
