Teaching

I have been teaching on and off since 1998. I began my career as a long-term substitute in my hometown. I covered the last half of the school year for a coach that transferred to another school. I hadn't yet finished college, but I found myself preparing and teaching lessons; creating, administering, and evaluating assessments; and learning a whole lot about English while trying to educate these first students of mine. I was lucky to be teaching English IV and Business English for those four months--seniors made it much easier than it could have been had I begun with freshmen or sophomores. By May of that year, I knew I was headed down the right path. Since then I have taught six different grade levels at three different schools and have finally settled down and unpacked in the classroom in which I plan to stay. I have spent many years trying, failing, and growing as an English teacher, and I'm still not finished improving. Each day in the classroom is a learning experience for me as well as for my students. I'm glad to have the opportunity and technology to collaborate and share with other educators around the world. On this page you'll find some of my thoughts, rants, lesson ideas, documents, and classroom tools. Feel free to comment, ask questions, and share!
